The Shop Fishers: Summer Series is here offering special discounts and promotions from local businesses and restaurants every Wednesday this August. Check out my favorite picks below!
1. Mathnasium of Fishers
Location | 12244 E 116th St. #200, Fishers
Whether your child needs to catch up, keep up, or get ahead in math this school year, Mathnasium is a great resource to help. After an evaluation, each student is given an individual learning plan to help them get where they want to be. Drop your student off once or twice a week for a fun twist on math tutoring, where they will have fun improving their math skills and earning prizes for finishing work. While you get groceries or sneak in a workout, they will be introduced to new concepts, get one-on-one guidance to master them, and receive homework help. It’s an easy frustration-free way to help your kiddo gain confidence in math!
2. Gallery 116
Location | 8597 E 116th St., Fishers
This eclectic shop has long been a staple of Downtown Fishers. It features local artists, makers, and small businesses. I could spend a full afternoon browsing all of the unique gifts and wares throughout this cute little shop. Gallery 116 is the perfect place for one stop shopping for all of your gifting needs. From ceramics and apparel to art and jewelry, you’ll be sure to find something perfect for any occasion!
3. Roman & Leo
Location | 8800 North St., #115, Fishers
Boys often get the shaft when it comes to boutique clothing shops, but at Roman and Leo, you can find the trendiest boy gear! Hats, suspenders, cool graphic tees and luxurious neutrals for babies are some of my favorite finds. Roman and Leo carries locally made items from Made by Molly and Rivet Kids as well as well-known brands like Quincy Mae, L’oved Baby, and Copper Pearl. Make sure to check out all the fun Hoosier-themed items, as well!
4. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream
Location | 8760 E 116th St., Fishers
Another Downtown Fishers staple is, of course… Handel’s! If you have ever driven down 116th on a summer evening, chances are you have noticed the herd of hungry patrons waiting in line for a cone. This is a popular place, and for good reason. For over 75 years, Handel’s has made their ice cream fresh and on-site daily, one batch at a time. They’ve got over 100 incredible flavors and have been voted as one of the best ice creams in the world by several publications over the years. Butter Pecan, Spouse Like a House, Strawberry, Graham Central Station, and Oree-dough are a few of my family’s favorites. If you have a hard time deciding which flavor you want, get a 4-scoop sampler to try out several options. You can’t go wrong with 4 mini-scoops of ice cream
5. 101 Beer Kitchen
Location | 9708 District N Dr., Ste. 910, Fishers
Look no further for fresh, local, and handcrafted food with a down to earth vibe. And with “beer” in the name of the restaurant, you can count on a huge variety of brews to choose from. They’ve got 20 options on tap, so you can discover new flavors or stick with your tried and true favorite. You can’t skip the Mini Jarlsberg Grilled Cheese or the Housemade Soft Pretzels! 101 Beer Kitchen has something for everyone- including incredible vegan and vegetarian options. They are rolling out their Fall Menu now, so look for new options! Great food, great beer, great environment!? Forgetaboudit, I’m hooked!

Kelly Yale is a long-time resident of Fishers (she’s lived here since she was 12!) who lives on the east side of the city. She loves hiking in parks, cooking and trying new restaurants, visiting the Fishers Farmers’ Market, and spending time with her family. Wife and daughter of small business owners, she’s passionate about local businesses and loves exploring shops around the City. She is vegetarian and tries to avoid plastic and waste as much as possible, along with buying secondhand instead of new. Her favorite thing about Fishers is experiencing all of new things that it has to offer since she was a child, while still being able to reminisce on her childhood memories here. She has a 9 year old daughter and welcomed a baby boy in October. Follow her on Facebook and Instagram.
