Originally called ‘Waapikaminki’ because of the limestone bedrock the river flowed upon, the White River played an essential role in the development of early settlements by providing drinking water and power. Conner Prairie
As one of the most visited outdoor museums in the country, Conner Prairie inspires curiosity in individuals of all ages! Visitors can experience history come to life as they climb into an authentic canoe from 1816 Lenape Indian Camp, cool off at the River Crossing Play Area or meet General Morgan in the immersive 1863 Civil War Journey experience. Ambassador House & Heritage Park
Heritage Park is a 33-acre nature park with excellent bird watching, wooded trails, and a sledding hill. River Glen Golf Course
With gorgeous, scenic views of the course, visitors at River Glen Golf Course may have to remind themselves to focus on the green! Running right alongside the river, this 18-hole course is entertaining for golfers of all ages and abilities. Schedule a tee time here.
Nonie Werbe Krauss Preserve
Located on the southwest corner of 116th Street and Eller Road, Nonie Werbe Krauss Preserve provides beautiful views of wildflowers and prairie plants. The preserve is home to low-impact walking trails and serves as an outdoor educational laboratory for students at Riverside Intermediate School.
Riverside Woods Trails
The Riverside Woods Trails include multiple loops that follow scenic routes around the Nonie Werbe Krauss Preserve and Riverside Junior High. Hikers can expect to see gorgeous views of the river and grassy meadows, and should keep their eyes peeled to see glimpses of birds and insects!
