During March Disability Awareness Month, Stacey Oldham is dedicated to raising awareness about disabilities and offering support to those who live with them. She sees this month as an opportunity to highlight the experiences of people with disabilities and to share her own 40-year journey with Multiple Sclerosis as a source of inspiration.
Stacey is a Fishers resident, board member of the Fishers Advisory Committee on Disability, and this year’s keynote speaker at the 2024 Fishers March Disability Awareness Month Kickoff on Friday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the Launch Fishers Theater.
“I am excited to share the message of looking at the past 40 years and where we have come with disability awareness and where we are going in the future, both as a city and as a committee,” she explained.
This year’s March Disability Awareness Month theme, “Fueled for the Future,” partners with Indy Fuel (the professional hockey minor league affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks) to showcase their upcoming move to the new Fishers Event Center, projected to open in late 2024. The Indy Fuel believe that “Hockey is for Everyone” and jumped at the opportunity to partner in support of the month’s events.
The Indy Fuel is also hosting a special March Disability Awareness Night at their game on Friday, March 22. You can purchase tickets for a special rate of $25 and a portion of your ticket will go back to support the committee. The first 100 tickets purchased will also receive a special “Fueled for the Future” T-shirt.
Stacey has been involved with March Disability Awareness Month committee since 2016. Each year the committee hosts various events and programs to raise awareness and promote inclusion and accessibility. “Over the years, I’ve seen the committee grow and incorporate people with a variety of different backgrounds to help the community flourish and ensure that Fishers is accessible and welcoming for all,” she shared.
Be sure to catch Stacey’s presentation at the March Disability Awareness Month Kickoff on Friday, March 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the Launch Fishers theater.
