The Community Concert Series at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater (NPD AMP) returns starting tomorrow night with Cool City Band. Held every week through June and July, these free Tuesday shows begin at 7p.m. and feature local and regional bands and performers. The full lineup of musical guests for this summer can be found on the NPD AMP website.

Outside of great music, you’ll also find Fishers’ Community Ambassadors at the concerts. These residents love Fishers and enjoy helping others get connected with the community. Whether you’re a new resident or a long-time citizen looking to get more involved and meet new people, these ambassadors are here to help you get connected with social groups, local businesses, and share information about what’s going on around Fishers.

Look for the blue Community Meetup Tent when you arrive at the NPD AMP and stop by and say hello! The tent opens at 6 p.m. and no prior reservation or registration is needed. Just drop in and introduce yourself before the show!

You can learn more about the Community Ambassadors and how they can help you get connected at ThisisFishers.com/Ambassador. Here are some of the ambassadors you’ll find at concerts this summer.

Roz Harris

A resident of Fishers for the past nine years, Roz is the owner of Fit Chicks, a boutique personal training studio. As the leader of a community of women committed to living healthy, and happy, she believes in wellness and enjoying life. Her other interests include binge-watching cooking shows, searching for great ingredients, and traveling to restaurants off the beaten path.

What do you love most about Fishers?

I love the fact that it’s easy to live in Fishers. The city is well-managed, a growing, diverse community, and you don’t have to be married with children to feel part of things. We’re so fortunate to be part of such a lively place. I also love how open and available the city’s leadership is. They are accessible and dedicated to serving us.

What are your top recommendations for things to see and do around Fishers?

Walk around and along the Nickel Plate Trail and enjoy the new coffee shops like MOTW Coffee and Pastries. I love that Fishers has the usual things like Starbucks and Target that make life convenient, but there are unique local shops and restaurants to fall in love with, too. Also, celebrate the summer with Spark!Fishers, because the week-long celebration offers several fun activities.

What’s one piece of advice you would give a new Fishers resident?

Sign up for the city’s emails because there’s so much happening! It’s important to stay informed at the local level and these emails cover construction projects, recreation, health department issues, and cultural celebrations.

What are some ways that existing residents can get move involved and connected to their community?

Do three things.

  1. Participate in the Fishers City Government Academy. I learned a lot and met good people in this program.
  2. Join a spot just for you that’s not associated with your spouse or children. For example, join a small boutique fitness studio for personal training or Pilates where community is fostered.
  3. Finally, sign up for the city’s emails. You will never feel out of the loop again.

What can guests expect from the Meetup Tent at concerts?

You can expect to feel welcome. If you don’t know what to expect at the concert but want to check it out, then meet at the tent first. Come by and hang out with us for a while.  Why? You’ll instantly feel connected and know that you can get your bearings with us. Plus, we’ll have space to sit, relax, and receive some helpful information about Fishers. As a Fishers Community Ambassador, I want to see more single women enjoying life in Fishers and I think the tent can help.

    Bethann Buddenbaum

A native Hoosier, Bethann moved her family from Los Angeles to Fishers more than a decade ago. Drawn to Fishers for the outstanding schools, diverse green spaces, and quiet living, she has enjoyed watching the town grow into a vibrant suburban city. She is an avid gardener who enjoys walking and volunteering in her free time.

What do you love most about Fishers?

There is a real focus on quality of life in Fishers. I appreciate the dedication to building Fishers as a place to live, work, and play. There is thoughtfulness in attracting quality employers to the city, while creating a community that provides residents with great parks, delicious dining options, a variety of entertainment choices, and many arts and culture opportunities.

What are your top recommendations for things to see and do around Fishers?

When my kids were growing up, Conner Prairie was our favorite destination. Even though they’re now grown, it remains a place that we frequent. In addition to being a living history museum, Connor Prairie provides a variety of events for all ages including History on Tap, the Chautauqua series, and Symphony on the Prairie. And, I can’t forget to mention — baby goats.

What’s one piece of advice you would give a new Fishers resident?

Register for the Fishers City Government Academy, which is offered in the fall. It’s one of several citizen academies offered by the City of Fishers. Participating in this nine-week program provided me with a better understanding of how our local government operates and introduced me to a variety of departments and the staff who make Fishers run.

What are some ways that existing residents can get move involved and connected to their community?

The volunteer opportunities in Fishers are endless. Getting involved is a great way to meet your neighbors, give back to the community, and create a sense of connection. I recommend signing up for the city’s volunteer newsletter to stay up to date on volunteer needs.

What can guests expect from the meetup tent at concerts?

The Community Meetup Tent provides residents with a new way of connecting. Stop by to check in, hang out, chat, and meet new people. As a Fishers Community Ambassador, I am excited for this opportunity to hear from my neighbors about their experiences living and working in Fishers and help connect people with resources that can make their lives here even better.

    Tish Biggs

As a former teacher, webmaster, TV host and elected official Tish has worn many different hats in service to her community. Her current role as a community ambassador for the City of Fishers and her volunteer position with Indiana State AARP office gives her a great opportunity to continue serving others.

What do you love most about Fishers?

I love that some people are from Indiana, but many are from other states. There are always people to meet who are transplants like me. Fishers is so new that there are a range of life experiences and backgrounds to learn about.

What are your top recommendations for things to see and do around Fishers?

While we all develop a love for our favorite park, I would encourage people to explore a park or recreation center that is unfamiliar to you. There is great diversity in the park system and every one of them offers a new adventure.

What’s one piece of advice you would give a new Fishers resident?

Keep in touch with city announcements through newsletters, magazines, Facebook or by getting on email lists. Check the city website. You can’t attend an event or concert if you don’t know it is happening!

What are some ways that existing residents can get move involved and connected to their community?

Attend concerts at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater and the Fishers Farmers Market, or sign up to be a volunteer.

What can guests expect from the meetup tent at concerts?

Guests at the meetup tent can expect friendly ambassadors who will work to connect them with people and experiences that meet their specific interest and needs.

Roz, Bethann, and Tish aren’t the only Fishers residents you may find at the Community Meetup Tent. The complete list can be found on the Fishers’ Community Ambassadors page. Be sure to stop by and say hello at the next concert you attend!
